As soon as I get an approval from some of the subjects that is..
While I’ve been away busy with school life and photo jobs, I recently had a chance to do a videography work. Recording a piano performance. I did grab some new gears for some basic sound works at home so it was a good opportunity to test out my microphone and editing equipments I got. The shoot was a breeze, easy stuff.. just gotta work on getting good sound coverage of the piano since it’s a pretty big instrument. Editing was easy.. nothing fancy invovled just chop at the begining and another slice at the end. The challenge here was DVD authoring so people can pop the DVD into their DVD player and just watch it on their TV instead of having to watch it on computer. Since I never done DVD authoring before I had to google some stuffs to figure it out. I used Adobe Encore CS 4 by the way.. adobe website was pretty helpful if you read carefully.. took me a night to figure out the basics and another night to play around with it more. I feel pretty good now that I taught myself a new set of skills.. I can see how this might be benefit in the future. If any photographers in Ottawa want to share some knowledge in video production, just holla

random mind talking out loud
Photography has been slow this month but film made its way in to fill the blank
Shot two wedding videos recently and convered an event. Every time I’m out shooting video I wish I had a camera in my hands instead and sometime.. I wish for the opposite. Getting more comfortable with editing vidoes, learning alot as I go. I love doing both so the future is still undecided for me but I got just a little bit more time to ponder on that before I’m out of school. The whole dillema of wishing both photo and video is now turned into a financial hair pulling sessions of whether I should sell my organ to upgrade to the newly announced Nikon’s D300s. I don’t really have that kind of money right now, been dropping dollars/loonies on buying DVDs and Blurays. I’m glad I bought them though I love watching these films and studying about them so it’s been a good investment and also a new hobby of mine to collect movies.. other than still dealing with on-going undecidedness but nice to chill back and relax to have some of my own time to read some books I’ve been trying to read and catch up some movies before the chaos arrives in september. Although, I don’t want this precious time given to last too long.. gotta pick up the pace a bit soon.

Pascal Aka is going to Hollywood to attend Action on Flim Festival because his movie Jamie and Eddie: Souls of Strife got accepted and nominated for Best Action sequence (feature) & Best Foreign Film (feature). Job well done to Pascal for working his a** off to get his movie made and out there. I wasn’t involved with this film, I only did some photography work for his posters but helping out with his second one. I should have whole bunch of snaps from the production set but I can’t seem to find some of the older photos… so here’s some snap shots from the movie set of his current project EVOL.
* if you look at the photo of the camera you will see two iphones supporting my telephoto lens… never again..

Korean War Memorial
[June 28, 2009]
This one is more personal than other photos since I am Korean. It has been more than 50 years since Korean War (1950 – 1953) ended (not by reunification, but through armistice agreement therefore Korean War didn’t really end.. it’s just taking a break). I’m not really into sharing personal feelings on internet but might just share a little bit with this one. I’m just one of many Koreans with relatives up in North whom I never met, I know this because while my grandfather was alive he used to visit China, near the border area to try to find any info on his separated families. He passed away before getting to see his lost families again or hearing any news about them. This breaks my effing heart. Even after more than 50 years the country is still divided in half.. and while I was at Bayshore shopping centre I saw this on the window of travel agency.

Anywayz before I get carried away, here are some photos of Brave Canadian soldiers as well as some Korean Veterans.

Batawa [June 17, 2009]
Trip to Batawa took about 3 hours. Located between Ottawa and Toronto this town was founded by Thomas J. Bata during the 1930s, it is also a site of old Bata shoe factory which began operation in 1940. (Wikipedia) This small town is going through a transformation process with the help of Carleton students and faculties as well as Mrs. Bata herself. Me being the guy with most loose or flexible schedule I got to go with folks from Carleton DUC to photograph and videograph whatever it is that they are doing there.
Here is Globe and Mail article on Batawa (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/the-gutsy-plan-to-bring-batawa-back-to-life/article1194178/)
It was hectic running around trying to get photos and video plus carrying loads of equipment around with me all the time. Including a tripod with videohead on it..
Here are the photos. (I don’t think I’ll be uploading the video but once Carleton has it up I’ll post up a link to that)
Be sure to check out photos by Fred Lum at Globe and Mail website.

CIS 2009 Day 1
It’s been so long since I shot this and finally posting it
I just went through all the photos really quick because I didn’t want to spend too much time with it.
I’ll post up photos from elimination rounds first and post up the final game afterwards.

These are some of the shots from day 1 [March 13, 2009]
